Apple quietly rolled out iOS 6.0.1 today. This update will roll out to iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The update is a paltry 34.7MB, which will make downloading and installing it a quick affair.
There are some important bug fixes and improvements to the operating system so make sure to check for a system update on your phone. Here’s what changed:
- Fixes a bug that prevents the iPhone 5 from installing software via over-the-air updates.
- Fixes a bug where horizontal lines might be displayed across the keyboard.
- Improves reliability of the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod Touch when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks.
- Resolves an issue that prevents the iPhone from using the cellular network in some cases.
- Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match.
- Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from the lock screen.
- Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings.
To get this upgrade, check the Software Update section on your iOS device or plug in your device to iTunes and use iTunes to check for the update instead.
Since this update fixes a problem with iPhone 5s not getting over-the-air updates, iPhone 5 users will be prompted to download an updater first. There’s no need to look for this updater in the app store as it will automatically download on devices that require it. Simply go to the Settings > General > Software Updates to check for the updater. Once that is installed, you’ll be prompted to download the iOS 6.0.1 update.
Some iPhone 5 users have reported that they need to reboot the phone after downloading and installing the updater. If you don’t see the iOS 6.0.1 update after installing the updater, try rebooting your phone.
