Pimp your ride with Drag Racer!

By Cyril Roger on 16 January, 2007

dr2.jpgDrag racing is all about jazzy tuned-up cars, the 'bling' attitude and adrenaline filled races on abandoned highways. Pimp the interior and exterior of your ride and boost your engine to compete with other revamped high powered vehicles. To be someone in drag racing, your ride needs to pack power and show some style.

Drag Racer emulates the tuning spirit. Your objective is to customize and improve your car as much as you can and win your races against all types of vehicles, from a Honda Civic to the Lamborghini Murcielago. Choose your car among more than 20 different constructors and customize it completely from the steering wheel to the seats and exhaust pipes. You can add wings and decals and give it a paint job. Win performance points to improve your ride in different categories like suspension, turbo, engine or ignition.

By Nick Mead on 4 April, 2008

Racing carsMy favourite games have always been racing games and I remember the days when racing against a friend involved being in the same room and even sometimes using the same keyboard. Nowadays, however, distance is no issue. You can race against buddies in any part of the globe as long as they've got a fairly decent internet connection. The only question is, which game do you choose? There are so many great racing games out there that's it's not easy to choose but these 5 must surely rank as a selection of the best ever made that can also be enjoyed against online opponents:

Need For Speed Carbon - Amazing graphics, blistering circuits and superb gameplay

KartRider - Fun cartoon style karting game that you can play against up to 8 players

Drag Racer - Pimp your car for a super-smashing ride

Drift City - Take to the streets of San Francisco in a world without oil

Top 10 racing games

By James Thornton on 14 March, 2007

schumacher21.jpgThis Saturday sees the start of the new Formula 1 season in Melbourne, promising more high-octane thrills and spills than ever. This year’s competition looks like it might be pretty interesting thanks to a host of new drivers and cars, plus the departure of the win-aholic Michael Schumacher.

If you’re anything like us then once you start watching the race you’ll get the sudden urge to get into a car and drive it very quickly. The trouble is that, unless you want to wave goodbye to your driving licence, this isn’t really possible. However, you can get your fix of adrenaline using your PC by downloading one of the many racing games out there.

Things have come a long way since the days of Out Run on the Sega Master System, with titles such as Need For Speed delivering a realistic driving experience at trouser-wetting speeds. That’s not to say that simple motoring games aren’t still great, as proven by Softonic’s number one, Drag Racer. Here are the most popular games in our Driving Games section:

1. Drag Racer - Pimp your ride then race against other vehicles 2. Rig Racer 2 - Compete against super trucks 3. CrashDay - Drive, fight and compete in this intense racer 4. GTI Racing - Drive 10 generations of VW classics 5. Racer - Cross-platform 3D racing simulator 6. Need For Speed: Most Wanted – Become the most notorious driver 7. TrackMania - Design and race on impossible circuits 8. Championsheep Rally - Have fun with this cute sheep racer 9. Need For Speed Carbon - The most customisable Need For Speed yet 10. GDC 2012: Sleeping Dogs hands-on

By Christopher Park on 9 March, 2012

Sleeping Dogs’ development history is pretty well known. Developed by United Front Games and scheduled for release through Activision, the game was cancelled and brought back to life by Square Enix.

Originally planned as another game in the True Crime series, but now known as Sleeping Dogs, I had a chance to play two levels. The first focused on hand-to-hand combat and the second was to preview of driving.

I admit right now – I want to play this game as soon as possible.
