Dissecting the Google Play Services package inside the MyGlass app, Ron Amadeo of Android Police found that there’s a backbone for a gaming services that includes real-time multiplayer, turn-based multiplayer, in-game cat, achievements, leaderboards, invitations, and lobbies. The interesting thing about these services is that there’s no interface included in the package, leading Amadeo to believe that app developers will have control designing an interface for Google’s multiplayer mobile gaming service.

By creating a mobile gaming service, Android will finally see a competitor to Apple’s Game Center. There are currently apps that include their own social networks like now discontinued OpenFeint but it would be nice to see a unified Google experience across Android games. Better yet, a unified Android gaming service will make developers’ lives easier by laying the groundwork for multiplayer experiences.
