Google Play Games for Android looks like a sure thing for the I/O conference this week. Evidence of the service was found by Android Police, which obtained a copy of Google Play Services v.3.1.36.

Like Xbox Live, Google Play Games includes cloud saved games, multiplayer functions, leaderboards and achievements. The service is linked to Google+. You will be able to see gaming notifications from friends and contacts there, and share scores too.

Like other game services, it has game invitations, and there should be a list in the service which stores all your invites. There will be manual and automatic match-making, but so far it is not known how this will work. There are icons for achievements and leaderboards, and these are likely to work just like PlayStation Network or Xbox live. Leaderboards can be viewed by day, week, or all time. Cloud saves are one of the best inclusions – as long as you’re connected to the internet, you’ll never lose your progress in a game, and will be able to continue from where you left off wherever you are signed in to Google services.

We’ll find out more about Google Play Games later this week at the I/O conference, but we can see it promised to make Android gaming much more social, and better integrated with Google services.
