GTA V announced - trailer on its way

By Tom Clarke on 25 October, 2011

As a huge fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, I'm overjoyed to pass on the news that GTA 5 has been announced by Rockstar Games! The surprise confirmation, made on Rockstar's Twitter feed, links to a teaser image on the developer's homepage. The image confirms that a trailer for the latest GTA will be available from November 2nd.

GTA V has been announced

While the image itself doesn't seem to contain too many clues, it's worth noting that the typeface of the 'FIVE' text is lifted from a $5 bill. My expectation (shared with Jon and lots of other people, it seems) is that GTA V will take place in roughly the same setting as San Andreas (which covered fictional cities inspired by Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas). There is also some speculation that the 'new' number (moving to 'V' rather than continuing with 'IV') suggests a new engine might be used in the game.

What do you think? Where... and when... do you think the game will be set? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below. And if you're unfamiliar with GTA, you can still get the GTA IV screensaver here.

    What.

IV is Roman numerals for 4 V is Roman numerals for 5 VI would be 6

Thanks, that was a typo (I meant 'IV' not 'VI'). I meant that GTA III had various episodes (different standalone games), but when they updated the engine, they moved to IV. So V could suggest a new engine too.

I hope it's in Appalachia, West Virginia that way I can finally live isolated in the woods from all the problems of the real world.

the money looks like it could be rough and tough and 'gangsta' like san andreas. I personally would prefer a completly new city, but IDC! iv been a fan of GTA as it was my first ever game and i remain loyal... Unless the next gta is on the moon or in korea, im stoked

@ Vincent all the "Terrorist" already work on dc, a dc game would automatically be about terrorists...lol

But yeah, if the inside source says Detroit, Detroit it is. I wish they would do one in phoenix, there is so much culture here, it is just joins away from Vegas, LA, Mexico, grand canyon ...Hoover dam, ...

A game based here, could incorporate "coyotes" running illegals across the border, there is Dang life, a huge Norman community (could incorporate that) hell angels are out here...Joe Arpaio, that itself would set the game apart from others, there is a nuclear power plant out here. A lot of military bases. Ghost towns, lost duchmans goldmine, the list goes on and on, I have been patiently waiting for a GTA to take place here for over a decade now.

To the guy who works for rockstar, maybe you could suggest that?

Either way, I am happy that another installment is coming out soon, I can't wait.
