Plug your iPhone into iTunes today and you'll be able to update your phone to iOS 4.02. The main purpose of the update is to fix a security flaw with PDF files - it had been discovered that downloading a PDF file in Safari could have allowed potentially malicious files access to your phone.
The secondary purpose is to stop jailbreaking. Jailbreakme offered one click iPhone jailbreaking that used the PDF security flaw. So upgrading to 4.02 will kill your jailbreak, but make the phone more secure.
Surprisingly, the update is over 500mb, a lot for an supposed security fix. I wonder if there are some stability fixes in there too, as iOS4 has definitely been more buggy than 3 (at least on my 3GS).
Check out Apple's info on the update, where you can also see the iOS 3.2.2 update for the iPad that fixes the same problem.

Apple just keeps lying. "Oh our products are safe but here are some security fixes". If it was safe it wouldn't need security fixed. "Oh your allowed to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod Touch now but here's an update that will stop jailbreaking". Apple needs to tell the truth and spend their money they use to lie to customers and instead use that money to make their products safer and more secure. Stop telling people you can jailbreak our iPhones and iPod Touch if your gonna continue to release updates that kill jailbreaking. But seems like Apple would rather waste their money lying and being hypocrites over making their products the safest and securest they can be. Isn't it nice that a company cares nothing about their customers including their customers safety and just want money and nothing more?
BTW there is already a jailbreak for 4.0.2 iOS. Windows: http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-ios-4.0.2-with-redsn0w-how-to-guide/ Mac: http://www.gadgetsdna.com/how-to-jailbreak-ios-4-0-2-iphone-3g-ipod-touch-2g-with-redsn0w-0-9-5/5450/ Some security fix. Apple is such a joke. I love my iPod Touch but I really hate the lies of Apple. Not giving a crap about their customers even willing to lie to make extra money.
Apple don't say you can jailbreak your phones; hackers do. Apple don't want you to jailbreak your phone, as it ruins the App Store's business model, and possibly upsets the stability of the device. I have found the iOS to be the nicest mobile operating system I've used. I use it on that basis, not because it's the safest, but due to its usability. Android gives you more flexibility, but it's still not quite as smooth as iOS (my opinion!). I think the same goes for Macs too - people buy them for the user experience, not because of security, but because they're so pleasant to live with. I can totally understand why people don't like Apple or their products, but luckily for them there are plenty of other options out there!
I'm sorry Jon if my comment offended you or any other person who owns an Apple product cause it's not my intent. But seriously as an Apple user, you really should be livid about how Apple lies to their own customers, tells you what you can and can't do with the products you bought and puts you all at risk for a hacker attack because a lot of people believe in the hype and won't invest in security and this is 100% Apple's fault. And I love Apple's products. I love my iPod Touch and wouldn't trade it for anything. I just hate how Apple lies and deceives their customers. Business 101 is to treat all customers equally and make them happy so they become return customers and here Apple is lying and deceiving people. Again if I were you or any other Apple user I'd seriously be offended by how Apple treats their customers. You don't just have to accept it. Enough complaints and threats not to buy Apple products again and Apple would change their ways and provide you with the best products and service possible.
And yes Jon Apple did say that you are now allowed to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod Touch. They changed their stance on the Jailbreaking or at least told their customers that. I read countless articles from countless sources, just so I know what's going on. I invest hours a day testing software, looking for new software to test and reading articles. I do have a problem with remembering what I read but I make sure to bookmark or write down things so I can explain things. I'd send you a link to the article had I still had it. I can however send you links over the Apple security situation if you want it.
I have to disagree there. The U.S. Copyright Office changed it's stance, which meant that jailbreaking was no longer considered illegal (crunchgear). Apple still do not recommend it, indeed they make very clear that jailbreaking voids your warranty, whether it's legal or not. (pcworld)
Yes I know it voids the warranty still but they changed their stance over it being illegal as people doing it. They weren't gonna "brick" their products like before, just mentioned it would void their warranty. But seriously there is no way for the repair people to know if your iPhone or iPod Touch is jailbroken unless your stupid enough to tell the guy who's repairing it that you jailbroke it. When I said legal now I meant their "bricking it". Any product that you use differently than the warranty voids it. But Apple had went to the extreme and bricked their iPhone and iPod Touch if you jailbroke it which they were gonna stop doing.
And yes I think I got the US copyright office and Apple themselves mixed up, I just knew it was counted as legal now.
All this moaning about jailbreak and "security" issues. Please fix the f@cking proximity sensor.
All this complaining, if you dont like it go back to where you came from, but you wont because going back to where you came isnt going to be better, you'll just be that scratch in the cd everyones heard and doesnt care about anymore, bit like you are now.. no one cares.
