What is Twitter?Windows Live Messenger 2010 is finally here. The long-awaited new version of Microsoft’s chat client was launched a couple of days ago, featuring a load of new features: redesigned interface, new emoticons, easier photo sharing...
But if there’s one thing that characterizes this new version of Windows Live Messenger, that’s its integration with Facebook and other social networks and online services. The lack of connectivity with social sites was an issue in Microsoft’s instant messenger, especially as other IM clients (such as Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Trillian or Nimbuzz, to name a few) were already hooked up to the big social networks.
If you use the same email address for your Windows Live ID and your Facebook account, integration is automatic. If not, you’ll have to connect both services in the Windows Live website. In any case, once your Messenger and Facebook accounts are linked, the integration is seamless. You’ll be able to update your status or share a link on Facebook via Live Messenger, and also check the latest posts on your wall – including photos and videos, embedded right into Messenger’s interface.
Facebook is not the only online service you can link with Windows Live Messenger. You can also connect it to other wbsites such as YouTube, MySpace, Blogger, Flickr, Digg and a lot more to get all your social updates in one place. All you need to do is log in to the Live.com website with your Windows Live ID, and you'll be able to connect new services and manage the ones you already use.
One feature I especially liked was the new contact management area. Contacts can be organized in groups or categories, as well as marked as Favorites. This makes long contacts lists much easier to handle. Also, if you have different types of contacts – like, say, family and friends, or friends and professional acquaintances – you can also sort them out in a much easier, clearer way.
Chat windows are pretty much the same. You can start voice or video chats, send nudges and emoticons (which have been slightly redesigned), send files over to your friend or engage in online games and activities. Also, if you find the default interface design boring, try spicing it up with themes.
However, the greatest new feature regarding chat windows is undoubtedly the ability to have multiple conversations in one single window, thanks to the introduction of tabs. Simply open up as many chats as you want, and they’ll be conveniently nested as new tabs in your chat window.
In all, the new version of Windows Live Messenger is centered in two main points: revamped design (in interface, emoticons and other minor details) and social integration. Being still in beta development, we’re already looking forward to getting new stuff, like more supported social networks (Twitter, please!) and more ways to share everything you like – photos, links, videos – with your MSN friends, be it on Messenger or on any other social site.

This new version is really SH**. Really, seamless integration? I can get better integration between thoughts and controlling my television telepathically. Ben: after trying out earlier betas, I can tell you this public beta is definitely better than previous versions of Live Messenger. And yes, I do find Facebook integration quite nice. At least it worked perfectly well for me :) When I said "new contact management" I meant the new way contacts are displayed in a separate area from the "Social" side. And there are new features, like the ability to appear offline only for certain groups.

In all honesty I don't get why people write articles involving all these separate Instant Messengers when there are products like Trillian and Digsby out that tend to cover everything any one person truly needs. Yes ok, Windows Live Messenger has the cute emoticons and you can use your custom emoticons as well but your talking about an Instant Messenger that also runs ads in it and once installed on your computer is like twice the file size of Trillian and Digsby. The worst I find about these basic messengers is they slow down a computer more than Trillian and Digsby. Every time I try Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo Instant Messenger I find myself uninstalling it within the end of the day due to how sluggish my computer becomes. Even the newer versions of these messengers suffer from the same bloatware and slowdown as previous versions. They just add more eye candy, a few more features and watch their product bloat even more. The best Windows Live Messenger was the last MSN Messenger that was released without ads. It was the most responsive, kept a free look for the MSN Messenger preinstalled on the computer and allowed users to use their favorite emoticons. I would rather advise people to use software that didn't slow down their computers and offers the most for their needs. I believe the users are the ones who are important and a lot of them go solely by what editors say and refuse to try anything new, unless an editor gives the product an outstanding rating. My review rating is so high because I actually test all the products out on my computer, I don't use virtualization software which can't replicate someone's everyday computer usage. The best articles and reviews come from those who test and use the products on their own computers. Not test them on virtualization software.

Wow... I really don't know what idiot is in charge of MSN development in M$, but this is the worst release ever... WTF is with the Display Name... I must go to my live account to change it ??? What kind of redardism (new word) is this ?!? And WTF is with these gay-looking smiles... Why must I press "Alt" to access settings ??? Why when you go into settings and change the font you must close all opened chat windows (tabs) for the changes to take effect ??? Why the chat window has a limit on how small it can be ??? Who really cares about "highlights", "recent", "me" in Social section ??? Who cares about Bing and other useless crap the shoved in MSN section ??? Why every social setting change has to be made from the Live account page ??? And God, who really likes the photosharing feature ??? I Really hope Messenger Plus and A-Patch devs make updates to their apps to fix all this bloatware and crap that MSN dev team has shoved into this version of MSN... Sure it's still beta, but I'm pretty damn sure these assholes won't change anything... Instead of making it simple and efficient they made it even more retarded than it already was... God, can't these morons make a good messenger with nice design and simple yet powerful features...
i faced sooo many problems using this beta version like, it use to sign out after every 10 seconds so i found out that AVG antivirus was actually the problem ( i had to disable the firewall to make it work fine ) and then i added a person and now that persons name is my display name :| so shit .. it just changed it self and now i am having like hard time to change it back as windows live shows my name but when i use msn it shows my friends name rest i find everything cool but i guess its the beta version so there will be many bugs i so hope they fix this thing cause i kinda like this new msn

I really hate that I can't change my display name. After I upgraded all my friends see my OLD msn name and I see no option to change it since on my screen I appear as my normal name. What the hell was the idea behind that stupidity? The ability to easily personalize your user name was the feature I enjoyed most on MSN.

i realy dont like this new messenger,in one of my computer because of new messenger not showing how man people online near catagories, (eg: family (5/10,is not showing anymore.....) i tried to uninstall it,and try to reinstall old one,it is giving error that you cant install because you have bla bla bla somewhat version... (i dont want to format just because of msn!) and now in my laptop,an i saw an upgrade and did it.now my second msn turned into this useless ... ,and now i am thiking advising everyone to use different kind of chat programs:) (i like msn ,but not in this way!!!!)
All I got to say is 2011 sucks I'll will be uninstalling and use another mess service. as soon as I notify all my contacts

I struggle to block single persons o.o''' I dun like that it feels like the commercial is in focus, but I've changed the settings for that. so that's not so bad. but changing things and contacts I find a little hard. I dun think it's odd that most of my friends has changed back to the old msn. I'm too stubborn or else I would've joined 'em.

I dont like this version msn and ive completely uninstalled it, You can't block users or check to see who's list your on in the privacy settings... It looks like i will only be using facebook/twitter from now on either that or set up yahoo messenger.

Microsoft had a GREAT MSN Messenger ... what was the matter with it??? Why on this Earth would MSFT spend time and $$ in developement and redevlopment of MSN Messenger? Windows LIVE Messenger is TERRIBLE ...it takes up too much DESKTOP space with unnecessary GARBAGE ... the dribble provided is of NO use to MOST people ... the entire process slows down computer processing ... AND is so NON-ESSENTIAL. Please PLEASE give us back the ORIGINAL MSN Mewssenger ... which had all the needed tools for this type of computer program ... AND when I think of this program ... I saw NO NEED to waste computer programmer time to change the pictures from the right side to the left side ... that change was so redundant and so UNNEEDED!

I have only a few close friends on messenger the rest I have blocked but now everyone knows when I am online because of hotmail... it's all integrated. Too bad if you dont want the world to know every move you make. I cannot get rid of the stupid requiest for social highlights or msn so im throwing it away! This fixation with social media is ott....whatever happened to meeting up for dinner or drinks?! Going back to skype!

Absolute bloody rubbish. honestly, if i wanted to open social network i'd go open it. i don't want all these p**n boxes opening up jusat to chat to a couple of my friends. Its retarded. What was wrong with the previous version? And why did they remove the background 'scene'? I used to like chanigng it every now and then. And my udername has defaulted to my hotmail! WTF?!

I want the old MSN messenger back, not a facebook messenger, whats the point, facebook has its own messaging software in the browser, when you are on facebook.com, dont need windows live then.
