It's clear to us at Softonic that a huge number of people, after switching from Windows to Mac, still want to use Internet Explorer. Well the bad news for Mac newbies is that Internet Explorer for Mac is absolutely atrocious so you'll have to say goodbye to it now. In fact, it's so bad it's virtually unusable nowadays because websites simply won't render in it properly anymore.
This is what I got when I tried to visit Softonic's Mac site with it:

Not only does it fail to load most of the page but the elements it did load were badly aligned. Anything other than Google's homepage seemed to crash Internet Explorer for Mac immediately. Added to the fact that it doesn't even support Flash, tabbed browsing, modern JavaScript engines, extensions or even ad-pop-up blocking, you'd have to be absolutely masochistic to use it.
Part of the problem, apart from that it's not even a decent browser on Windows, is that Microsoft abandoned support and development of Internet Explorer for Mac in 2005. Since the browser is subsequently no longer designed to handle the requirements of most modern web pages, we strongly advise you to try Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera instead.
Alternatively, just check out all of the other browsers available for Mac. You have been warned!

Does Flash matter on mobile?
What is Twitter?
It's so bad, it has become an old favorite. I love how our review of it has only one positive thing to say about IE for Mac: that it might appeal to nostalgia!!
How about just stay away from Internet Explorer altogether regardless what OS? Wait until Microsoft is actually willing to innovate again rather than play follow the leader. Secunia at one time had Internet Explorer as a level 5 security threat even on Windows, level 5 is the highest risk. Flash Player and Internet Explorer seem to be the most dangerous products to use. The difference between the 2 is Flash you actually need if you go to sites like YouTube while there are always alternatives to Internet Explorer.
Unfortunately, for some people in the Real Estate business, IE is REQUIRED for usage on proprietary systems such as Paragon, Tapestry, etc. Since these sites are running such an antiquated code, IE for Mac should work properly so that you don't end up having to run Windows out of Parallels, etc. If you can get away with running just IE on a Mac, that is a FAR better cry than running the entire operating system just to be able to use IE!! Just my 2 cents, but I think most in my field who are computer savvy would agree. Too bad Microsoft won't package a working version, even if its limited, with the bundled Office Business suite...God knows it's expensive enough!
What solution is there for web designers & developers who work on a Mac but need to test our sites in IE?
LOL it looks like you were running the IE5 client on the Mac, what a mess. I think outside of developers the average person should just use Safari. But if you're persistent, you can use a third party utility to get newer versions of IE running, check out a walkthrough here: http://osxdaily.com/2010/04/20/run-internet-explorer-on-your-mac/ Kind of for advanced users, but hey it works.
Ha Ha. I would love to stay away from Internet Explorer. As a PC user, I only used IE for administering benefits for United Healthcare. Unfortunately they wrote their website to only work on IE. (Is it really 2010????) As a new Mac user, I am pretty much in deep do do since I am my company's only administrator.
@New mac user, You may be delighted to here about this new project then. I've been guaranteed one of the first invites so watch this space for a review: http://onsoftware.en.softonic.com/use-internet-explorer-on-mac-with-ie4mac
I have a site telling me I can only fill out the job app on-line using explorer, what can I do? I do not want to go back to the days of multiple crashes (switched 2 years ago from PC to Mac at age 50, finally)
Unfortunately, your best bet is to do it on a PC. Of course, you could also run Windows in OS X using Bootcamp or Parallels.
There are many sites out there with forms that require IE. This seems to be big real problem with Macs!
