One of last year’s most common user requests has come true: free calls and messages app Viber now has a desktop application for Windows and Mac. It is already available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Nokia and Bada.
Viber for Windows/Mac syncs with your mobile Viber account, and has all the same features. Messaging features stickers, emoticons and photos. You can call your friend’s mobile from your desktop, and even transfer calls between your computer and mobile. Video calling is supported between your Viber desktop contacts.
With this desktop app, Viber is really taking the fight to Skype, which has similar features but loses out in the messaging stakes. With its stickers and group conversations, Viber’s messaging doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It could be the alternative that disgruntled Windows Live Messenger fans have been looking for.
