youtubeUploading videos to YouTube isn’t difficult, but waiting for your video to be ready for viewing is a pain. Now the site is introducing notification emails, so YouTube will tell you when your video is ready.

You will also get more control over publishing and sharing. Videos will be set to private by default, so you can make sure the title, description and other meta data is correct before it is made public.

The notification mails are particularly useful – you won’t have to keep hitting refresh to see if your video can be watched. The mails also look pretty good, so as YouTube says on its blog, you can forward it to your friends and family for sharing.

There are also rumors that YouTube is about to launch paid subscription services. The Financial Times reports that Google has been working to create a subscription service for specialist video channels. It will give YouTube channels another way to finance making videos, like TV shows and movies. This would mark the start of YouTube competing more with net streaming TV services like Netflix and Hulu.

The email notifications and publishing controls should be rolled out to all users this week, while the subscription service is rumored to be coming at the same time.
